Oneness

I had gone on a trip to a little hill station, which still carried the quaint old world charm in those days, with no commercialization thanks to the military cantonment. In those days, is only about 5-6 years back , but the rate at which cities and people change in their landscapes and lifestyles, it can seem like decades.
So I was   walking down one morning, to one of the few sight seeing spots in town which was a little hanuman temple where he is said to have placed his foot on way to bringing the sanjivni buti. The road spiralled along the mountain like all mountain trails facing the (perhaps) Chandigarh valley below on the other side at  a distance. There was a stream of thoughts and conversations running through the mind. Exhausted by its incessant chatter, I said in my mind “ Shut up ” and immediately the machinery of this mind stopped . Suddenly the whole valley and my experience just transformed. Everything became viscous and visceral around me as though I was moving in an ocean. The road below my feet, the valley below, the mountain across and ones next to me covered with ancient tall pine trees and the sky became one. I could feel as if I was spread all over extending through to the skies. I felt a oneness and knowingness within of the relative grossness of all matter. Theory of relativity seemed a living walking experience. The roads and the mountains being one kind of density and the trunks of the high pines being subtler , their leaves still subtler and then the clouds and skies thinning into almost nothing, pure light. Everything felt more alive as I moved on, sitting along the road to simply soak in the valley. The sounds of the trees and birds sang clearly in the silence that felt deeper and clearer. Everything seemed to exist , move and happen in an emptiness, which was oceanic and full. Words are simply inadequate to express , but i hope they can somewhat hint towards the experience. As I climbed the little hillock a top which was the temple, there were rocks along the pathway that had mantras written on them and though I didn’t know or understand most of them, I seemed to soak them in by osmosis . A wordless sense of friendliness and care emanated towards all people and children walking up. Soon foggy mists came wafting through and seemed to pass  through me. I sat at every turn to take in the freshness of nature. I didn’t quite realize it’s significance then other thanthe aliveness. As I came down and walked back there was a cottage from which a beautiful music came, some one was playing the Piano or a record. I stood gazing out to the mountains listening to the music which was sweeter to the ears.
This profound experience lasted about 4  1/2-5 hours until I met the other people in our group and played hand cricket with them.
Its much later I realized, that I’d experienced Oneness of all creation and probably known first hand the existence of things as vibrations and awareness of their relative grossness , what Einstien would have deciphered by mathematics as theory of relativity. Ways of existence are as simple as this and this can be experienced by anyone ...
